Now you can create your WordPress calendar event categories the easy way. In this short tutorial I will show you how to create, assign colors, and consequently assign categories to your events.
Getting Started
First of all, click on the Event Categories link in the main menu to the left. Next, click on the Add New Category button. You will be taken to the next page where you will be able to name your category and assing a color to it.
Assign Category Name and ID
Next, assign a name and a unique ID to your category. This unique ID will be used in the shortcodes when you want to display events only in certain categories.

Finally, you can assign a unique color to your newly created category. A word of advice, if you choose a dark color for your event category, make sure you choose a white color for the text.
Once you have created all your event categories, they will automatically appear as an option when you create an event:
